Juniors scoop up medals in Cardiff
Six Reading juniors travelled all the way to Cardiff, last Friday, to compete in the Welsh Indoor Rowing Championship coming away with two silvers and two bronzes.
Indoor rowing championships are enormous events with 22 ergo machines in a large sports hall linked by computer to a giant screen. All competitors start together and the screen displays the real time race results with boat icons for each athlete moving across the screen. Supporters cheer loudly, supporting their rowers by making as much noise as possible as the winners and distances between racers are displayed for all to see. This event was no different with RRC supporters making a substantial roar to cheer on the Reading athletes, and drown out other supporters.
Rosie Morgan put in a great performance to winning a silver medal in the WJ17 2K. Sophie Morgan and Elle Veitz had a close battle in the highly contested WJ14 4 minute race with Sophie just slipping in front to take silver and Elle collecting bronze. Thor Sutherland had another tough challenge in the J14 4 minute race, winning a bronze medal for the squad. Strong performances were also put in by Seb Hudson in J15 and Annabelle Stevens in WJ14, with both events having a large number of competitors.
This is a fantastic result boding well for the racing season ahead, with the squad returning home very happy with their results. Well done to everyone!
