Learn to Row Course – Adults

(Please direct all junior enquiries to the Junior VC)

Rowing is fun, a great way to meet people and a fantastic way of keeping fit. At Reading Rowing Club we are delighted to welcome new beginners to our great sport of rowing. We run our Learn to Row course several times a year. See the list of date on the right hand side for more details. (Dates are subject to reaching the minimum six participants required)

Each course runs for 6 weeks and takes place on Saturday afternoons, and also from the 29th April on Sundays as well, from 2pm to around 3.30pm. The course is designed to develop your rowing from a complete beginner’s to a “novice” level. You will learn about rowing terminology, what the rowing stroke consists of, how to apply it on the rowing machine (ergo) and then the final 4 sessions will introduce to rowing in a racing boat on our beautiful stretch of river.

All beginners become temporary members of the Club and benefit from regular social events and the free use of facilities, including indoor rowing machines and a well equipped weights gym, during the relevant squad training sessions which you are very welcome to join in with. You will be told more about these sessions during the course.

The course costs £100 for the 6 weeks. At the end of the course there will be a short assessment and we are confident that you will then be offered the chance to join the novice sections of the men’s, women’s or master’s squads. Also if you do join the club after the course, £50 of the course fee will be deducted from the club joining and annual membership fee.

These courses are very popular and for practicality reasons are restricted to a maximum of 8 participants. So if you are interested then, in order to secure a place on the next available course, we suggest you contact us as soon as you can at beginners@readingrc.com. We’ll then tell you a little more about the course and also the first one on which one we are able to allocate you a place. If you’d like to take it then, after you’ve confirmed so, simply download and submit your L2R application form from here.

We ask that all applicants familiarise themselves with the Club Rules and Safety Guildlines.

If you have any questions about the course then do please email us.

We look forward to hearing from and welcoming you to our club.
