Reading RC hosts 3 full days of competition every year (2 days of Reading Amateur Regatta and one day of Reading Small Boats Head. As a club we are always looking for volunteers who wopuld like to train as Umpires.

Umpires operate on a regional basis (we are covered by the Thames Region) and are involved in officiating at events across their region and potentially beyond.

The ideal umpire candidate is probably a rower or cox in their 30s or 40s who has had some racing experience. They may have decided to reduce their commitment to competitive training but still want to be involved with the sport.

Umpire training is covered in the links below:

Umpiring - British Rowing

Training to become an umpire involves a seminar, theory exam, at event training, mentoring by an umpire and a practical exam. You can start training to become an umpire at any time of the year, with support from your Region.
