The women’s squad at Reading Rowing Club aims to cater for all levels of rowing experience from those who have just graduated from our Learn to Row courses to those who have national squad aspirations.
The Improver’s Squad caters for those who are relatively new to rowing and aims to develop technique before deciding whether to progress onto the Senior Squad system or the Explore Rowing group.
The Senior Squad focuses on more experienced athletes wishing to train hard and race, be it in a sweep or sculling boat. The coaching team is headed up by the Reading Rowing Club’s Director of Rowing, Nigel Smith who has designed a training programme which is tailored for every athlete with personal goals and structured targets to increase strength, endurance and stamina at a pace suitable to their own abilities and ambitions, allowing them to fit training in around their work and lives outside of rowing. At the top end of the senior squad we have a Performance Group which focuses on seasoned athletes wishing to train hard and achieve at the highest level. The Senior and Performance squads typically train between 8 and 11 times per week.
Our aims this year are to boat some serious crews in the winter Head races, compete at the major quality regattas leading up to Henley Women’s and the British Championships, but also to make sure that everyone gets plenty of opportunities to race at their own level, with success, and have some fun along the way
